THE MERITS OF CNC FOLDING

Reduced Costs. Increased Production Throughput. Increased Quality. Increased Safety. These are not worn out buzz words if you are bending sheet metal from light gauge to 1/2" plate steel. They are goals that can be achieved by adding the appropriate CNC folding machine to your bending process. Benefits of CNC folders when compared to press brakes:
  1. Folding provides better accuracy.
    • Material is held in place during bending.
    • Accuracy is not dependent upon shims for shape of tools.
    • Blank errors are folded into the first flange.
    • Bend radius is not determined by the shape of the tools.
  2. Finished material is not damaged because there is no slippage between material and tools.
  3. Cycle time (part to part) is faster on large pieces because machine can operate at full speed.
  4. Folding greatly reduces setup time.
    • A universal tool set is most often used and is not changed from part to part.
    • Upper clamping beam, lower beam and holding beam tools are automatically positioned by CNC controls for different material thickness and bend radii.
    • Most setups are completed by selecting the part number from the controller library.
  5. Operating costs are substantially reduced.
    • Only one operator is required with few exceptions.
    • Skill level required is lower.
  6. Folding is extremely ergonomic and safe.
    • The machine supports the material.
    • The operator does not hold the part during clamping and bending.
    • Part can be slid off the back gauge table.
